Maya (she/her) is an independent director, producer and photographer based in Naarm/Melbourne, who is passionate about exploring the potential of theatre to tell diverse stories. She is the co-founder of Eleven O’Clock Theatre, a musical theatre company that seeks to develop new, Australian work, and operates as a freelance artist under may as well productions. Her previous directing credits include Teeth and Tonic (Megan Scolyer-Gray, 2022), which premiered at the Melbourne International Fringe Festival with a sold out season, and The Breaths in Between, a musical collaboration between 11 diverse writers from across Victoria and NSW who came together during the pandemic to tell stories about love and connection currently underrepresented on musical theatre stages.

Her production credits include Brunch Ballads (Production, Technical and Marketing Manager, 2022), Fran and Leni (Producer, Seemingly Wholesome Productions, 2019) and The Drowsy Chaperone (Producer, UMMTA,2018), which won Best Musical at the 2018 Union House Theatre Awards. She was the Artistic of UMMTA in 2018, acting as an executive producer of a five-show musical season, including three new work initiatives.

Her photography has previously been exhibited as part of MUDFest (University of Melbourne, 2019) and she has successfully managed multiple marketing campaigns for independent productions. Maya also holds a Bachelor of Arts (University of Melbourne, Psychology / Criminology) and by day is a mental health infrastructure manager. She is passionate about improving wellbeing outcomes for marginalised populations and using theatre as a storytelling medium that can empower, engage and represent those who have historically been minimised in normative spaces.
